KO WAI TĒNEI / ABOUT ME

Ko Fiona Johnson-Bell tōku ingoa
After completing my studies (BCA, MBA, PGDip Soc Eva), I began my career in Māori Mental Health Workforce Development, supporting community support workers and the growth of Māori nurses, before moving into the education sector.
For the past 15 years, I’ve worked in education policy, national strategies, and programme design, all with a focus on creating pathways that enable Māori to thrive in higher education across Aotearoa.
I am currently pursuing my PhD, which explores Māori leadership and the development of pathways to support the next generation of leaders.
My philosophy
For me, it’s not “Ko wai koe?” (Who are you?) but “Nā wai koe?” (From whom are you?)
As Māori, what we do is never just for ourselves — it’s for the wellbeing of our tamariki and mokopuna.
